From 21 to 24 May 2026, the spring IDEALiStiC conference took place at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Student representatives from RWTH Aachen, ETH Zürich, Politecnico di Milano and Chalmers met for four days of workshops, discussions and exchange.

Workshops
The delegations worked in smaller mixed groups, each looking at different aspects of the workshop topic. This made the discussions more focused and gave everyone room to contribute.
Duty of Care
What do universities owe their students in terms of wellbeing, safety, fairness and support? We compared services such as mental health support, academic guidance and procedures against discrimination, discussed how well students are informed about them, and clarified where student unions help and where the responsibility stays with the institution.
Balance between Practical and Theoretical Work
How much of a degree is lectures, and how much is laboratories, exercises, projects and internships? We looked at how practical work is recognized through credits and workload, whether internships are required or optional, and whether students feel prepared for the job market.
Exchange Programs
Mobility is at the heart of what IDEALiStiC is. We discussed how exchange opportunities are promoted, which financial and administrative barriers stand in the way, and how incoming students are supported and integrated. We also talked about the role student associations play in making exchange a shared experience.
New team elected
At the conference, the representatives elected the new IDEALiStiC team:
- Co-secretary: Emma Göransson, ETH Zürich
- Co-secretary: Margherita Zoggia, Politecnico di Milano
- PR Manager: Marie Elise Trippel, RWTH Aachen University
You can find the full team on the Representatives page.
Thank you
Many thanks to our hosts at Chalmers and especially Alexander Ternström for organizing the conference, and to everyone who took part. The next conference takes place at ETH Zürich in October 2026.
